We are done with our first two lessons! You can see how I taught lessons 1-5 last year by clicking here.
This year, I added an Interactive Notebook to the mix! On day 1, we added Rat and Mole to our notebook, and completed the main events organizer together.

Instead of the baseball game for Foundational Skills, I created a Boom, Clap, Snatch game! They LOVED it! This time, we played where they each had their own paper tents to snatch. In Lesson 3, we will play against a partner to see who can "snatch" it the fastest. If you don't know how to play, look up the game on Youtube!

For writing, we are using these monthly writing calendars to work on basic sentence writing. The kids are coming to 3rd grade lacking writing skills like capitalization, punctuation, spacing, handwriting, and so forth. This is a quick 10-minute writing time, but I think beneficial enough to cut back a little off the CKLA writing and replace with this.

We used my Unit 1 Slides with the question and page number(s) displayed - this was so helpful for the kids to refer to when looking for the answer in the text. Before doing the activity, the kids read it silently then we did Teacher Reads / Kids Read (every other paragraph) to prepare them to find the answer.

Highlighters are a must to see who is finding the text evidence!

For Lesson 2 Foundational Skills, I found Boom Cards that went along with the skill perfectly!
