I plan to do a weekly recap of the CKLA lessons taught, including ways I adjusted for my lower kids, things I gamified or made more engaging, and other little things I did that may be helpful to others!
Lesson 1
During Reading, give the kids highlighters to find text evidence instead of having them answer the question. This created more engagement, but it also showed me who was actually finding the evidence and who was not able to. We will continue to use this method for the rest of the Sir Gus stories.

Lesson 2
I added these Boom Cards in during Foundational Skills, instead of the baseball game.
Lesson 3
I printed this slide (from my Unit 1 Slides) and had them glue them in their notebooks in order to sequence the story.

Instead of the baseball game, I created an Open The Box activity on wordwall.net. The kids partnered up and took turns opening a box and reading the word.

During Reading, I let the kids work with a partner. They did "I Read, You Read" with the numbered paragraphs. They were also allowed to do the sequencing worksheet together (3.2). Kids always have the choice to work alone, and I also pulled a group of my below level readers to do it with me.

Lesson 4
The kids read "The Hungry Troll" with a partner (I read a paragraph, you read a paragraph) before completing the "find the answer" activity. This helped my lower readers out a ton!

Lesson 5
For Reading, I had the kids discuss and write in groups for worksheet 3.3. It was great to hear their conversations! This got everyone talking instead of only a few students sharing out about each theme.

I replaced the baseball game again with wordwall.net games. Slides like this one are included in all of my units to use in place or in addition to activities/lessons.

We didn't get to the "Fire!" reading, so I moved it to the next day since we will not be doing the assessment on Lesson 6.
