Pausing Point
Webcam Observation - I used this slideshow, download here. (I am not sure who made it, so I can't give credit - let me know if it was you or you know who made it!) I think my kids enjoyed this activity more at this point than they did on Day 1 the last 2 years. They have a lot more knowledge after the first 7 lessons, so they were a lot more observant.

Text Features Hunt - Instead of the workbook page (PP1), I used slides. Kids can type on it as a slide, or you can share as a peardeck for easier typing (things don't move on Pear Deck, so you don't have to worry about them messing up the table or text already in place). I linked 6 books on Epic for a little more controlled choice instead of a free for all in the classroom library. You can download it here.

Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down - This is the "Raise your hand if. . ." activity on TG pg. 171

Using the Pear Deck draggable is a lot easier way to see who understands (than raising / not raising) because you can come back to it at a later time and hover over each check mark to see their names.

Lesson 8
Listening: The kids marked unknown words in the text. We stopped after each page and recorded one word, found clues from the text, and made predictions. I filled this chart out as we did this.

This is the visual I made for my students.

Language: I used slides to show how to add a prefix. They predicted what the word would be, then told the definition of the new word. On the drawing slides, they added the prefix and wrote the definition. These are on my Unit 2 slides.

Lesson 9
Language: We practiced spelling words with wordwall.net.

Lesson 10
I put the context clues sentences on Pear Deck slides, and they highlighted the strategy they used to figure out the meaning of the word. This gave me a better picture of who understood how to use those strategies, rather than doing it orally.

Lesson 11
I had a sub this day, so I didn't change much so she could teach from the guide.
