Lessons 6 - 9 + Pausing Point

Lesson 9

In unit 3, the amount of time they are asked to spend reading alone increases (and will continue increasing throughout the year). You can support your below grade level readers by letting them use the Hub. (This is through the Amplify app - my kids access through Clever.) I’ve noticed just having the option to listen really boosts their confidence, and they try hard to read the text!

Lesson 10

Lesson 10 Facebook Pictures

1) The listening provides your kids with background knowledge and vocabulary to help them be successful in that day’s independent reading.

2) Your kids can use the hub to listen to the text.

3) Partner them up! I use partner cards so a lower reader is paired with a higher reader, but they still get a choice of who they are with.

4) Pull a small group at this time.

5) Teach them to look back in the text (text evidence) so no matter what topic they’re reading about, they have this skill! I teach them to use the question (ie…the question says “cornea”, where is the word “cornea” in the text?)
