I haven't been able to keep up with these posts, so to ensure I get these recaps shared on my blog, I will no longer be posting pictures. Instead I will be linking to the Facebook posts that go with these recaps!
Lesson 1
We did the workbook pages on slides…it’s easier for me to check them all at once, quickly. I stressed to use their reader to find text evidence and that even after 4 years I still don’t have the information memorized!
We had our first multiple choice question using @peardecklearning and this was a hit! You can see what their slide looks like (choices on the side) and what it looks like when I share it out. I had them “argue” (debate) for/against each answer. They loved getting to justify (and they were referring to the text - wohoo!)
After, we played Kahoot reviewing the things we learned this lesson - it was just 6 questions but a fun way to end the lesson!
Spelling gets harder in Unit 4. I typed one word at a time, we said “sounds like ___”, then wrote it under the corresponding flap in the interactive notebook. We also did Spelling City.
Lesson 2
I gave them the true/false sentences (interactive notebook), and told them to predict if they were true or false. They were much more engaged in the story since they were listening to see if they were correct! At the end of reading, they sorted again, and we went through the slides, marking down their true/false answer. Then we went back and highlighted the answer in the reader using the hub.
Also today: we DID do worksheets for listening (compare/contrast) and language (verb tenses).
Lesson 3
Using the hub, we listened to chapter 3, highlighted information about the gods, and took notes in the interactive notebook..
After reading, the kids wrote about their favorite god or goddess. We brainstormed topic and concluding sentences.
Worksheet 3.2: I gave them 5 minutes to write sentences using as many of the listed vocabulary words as they could. Then we did hand up, pair up, share for each of the words.
Language: we brainstormed words for each suffix, then did the matching page from my suffix supplemental resource.

Lesson 4
Reread the chapter with the purpose of using the text to fill in the “family tree”. I added this page as an image to Classroom Screen and used text boxes to fill it in.
Listening: we talked about how the main idea was each type of Roman person (Patricia, plebeian, Roman slave) and they recorded details while listening.
Language: got caught up on linking verbs - this is a draggable Pear Deck Slide.
Lesson 5
Chapter 4: We looked back on the chapters together, then they filled out all of the main idea boxes independently, and we shared out after each one. After each page of chapter 4, I circled some key words and had them write down a sentence using all of the words. This wasn’t in the teacher's guide, but I like to have them actively doing something while listening.
Chapter 5: They filled out their own Venn diagram, but we discussed as a group.
Language: We took the spelling test. I printed this from my slides because I felt it was easier for them to see the groups (and for me to check!).
