Lesson 1

We started off with the KWL chart before doing Chapter 1. While listening to the hub, they wrote details under the “What Is Light” lightbulb flaps. They reread Chapter 1, then filled in the questions on the recreated 1.2 Lab Notes. We met back up and they told me the text evidence, which I highlighted on the hub. We got new spelling words - I wrote them on the sorted chart, and they wrote them in their notebook. We reviewed the suffixes from the last unit and did a matching activity - word to definition.

Lesson 2

During the listening, they filled out a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the characters. They partner read Chapter 1 and the excerpt, and compared and contrasted with page 2.3 (did not do page 2.1). We used syllable boxes to practice spelling words. We did Adverbs 2.4 together, then practiced spelling words on Spelling City.

Lesson 3

We used the recreated Lab Notes page 3.2 and did the light experiment. It only took 5 minutes, so if you’re on the fence just do it! For reading, they used a page from the interactive notebook that has the questions written out and a place to answer them. I prefer this over orally asking and answering because they are more accountable this way. We read the question, determine important words from the question, find those in the text, then answer the question using text evidence. We reviewed adverbs and they did worksheet 3.4 alone.

Lesson 4

While listening to the read aloud, they answered questions on Pear Deck. For writing, they compared and contrasted concave/convex with a Venn Diagram. We read chapter 3 and they filled in the recreated lab notes page 4.2. To find the main idea, we read the first sentence and circle words that are repeated. They wrote down 3 details on their own. We did adverbs when/where on Pear Deck...they had to choose the adverb from a sentence, then fill in the blank with an adverb.

Lesson 5

Listening was so long today . During it, they were listening why the straw looks bent and recorded that in their lab notes. Reading was the same routine as usual. Lastly, suffixes and instead of the worksheet we did this sheet from my language packet.
